Dog Training Services

Board 'n Train
Our Triple Crown Academy certified trainer will train your dog for you while you are away!   Just drop your dog off for boarding or daycare at Dog Days & Cat Naps in Johnston, and let us do the rest. When your dog has completed the program, you will have a fresh start with him.   You will have a “go-home” private lesson so you can learn what your dog knows and how to use it.   We also provide a follow-up lesson to go over any issues you may be having at home during the first couple of weeks following training.
Classes
Classes are a great option for almost everyone--whether you want your dog to behave better, or you just want a fun activity to do with your dog. Classes are offered to fit any lifestyle—from free-spirited, athletic classes to advanced obedience, we do it all.
Private Lessons (in-home or on-location)
Private lessons are perfect for people who:
1) Have specific skills or problems they would like to work on 3) Have a dog that won't do well in a class setting (expl: aggression issues)
2) Prefer 1-on-1 instruction over a group class 4) Want to learn how to use a remote collar
Behavior Modification

Problem behaviors are more common than you think.  They can disrupt your life and make you and your dog miserable.  They can be as minor as chewing on shoes to as severe as attacking people.
Professional training can help solve problems that seem helplessly unfixable.

The owner and operator of Pooch Academy is the only Certified Behavioral Specialist in the Des Moines area.  She was educated at the world-renowned Triple Crown Academy where she learned a minimum of seven ways to fix any behavior problem.  No dog is the same, so what works for some dogs may not work for yours.  This is where The Pooch Academy excels over the competition.  We don’t rely on one single method--we base our training method on each individual dog’s needs and learning styles
Seminars
Seminars are 1.5- to 2-hour classes based on 1 specific topic, such as Potty Training or Recall.  They are great for people who are interested in learning about a specific skill or topic without the commitment of signing up for a multi-week class. 
In-Home Training
Our experienced trainer will come to your home and train your dog for you! In-Home Professional Training is the perfect solution for busy professionals, busy parents, or the physically impaired. IE: If you want your dog trained, but don’t want to have to lift a finger, this is the program for you!
Adopt a Trained Dog
Have you considered adopting a new dog, but are apprehensive about what might happen when Fido moves in?  Put those concerns aside…The Pooch Academy has the solution. 
Future Services

The Pooch Academy’s future goal is to become known for training diabetic alert dogs and anaphylactic shock scent dogs. The owner and operator of Pooch Academy, Jessica Lohry, is a lifetime diabetic and a huge advocate of the enormity of good these dogs can do for their handlers. They aid in emotional, psychological, and physical ways that are immeasurable.
